They do make cool trumpet playing robots and games, but do to the language barrier, are actually very far behind web-wise. In Japan WordPress is just starting to catch on, and slowly at that. A large part of the problem is that there are very few savvy bloggers who are looking to make a living online, and who care about how their sites look. By very few I mean compared to the English speaking world. As far as selling themes goes, a person is not likely to make a dime, everybody is searching for free themes. To make take advantage of an emerging market the best thing to do would be to offer some sort of tie-in, for example hosting or seo services. Bothe which are fairly far behind the west as well.
