When it comes to tech, most people think Japan is ahead of the game. They do make cool trumpet playing robots and games, but do to the language barrier, are actually very far behind web-wise. In Japan WordPress is just starting to catch on, and slowly at that. A large part of the problem is that there are very few savvy bloggers who are looking to make a living online, and who care about how their sites look. By very few I mean compared to the English speaking world. As far as selling themes goes, a person is not likely to make a dime, everybody is searching for free themes. To make take advantage of an emerging market the best thing to do would be to offer some sort of tie-in, for example hosting or seo services. Bothe which are fairly far behind the west as well. Wordpressthemesmarket.com has been playing in the Japanese market for a while now, if you want to see some themes Japan-ized, take a look at wordpressテーマ and 無料wordpressテーマ

Even high fashion has gone down the environmental path, so here’s a little sampling of designers and shows to delight your eyes as well as your conscious.
The fashion design collective Ekovaruhuset, based out of New York and Stockholm, presented their House of Organic show as part of New York Fashion Week. All of Ekovaruhuset’s clothes are designated as “Fair Made,” which means the designers support producers who practice fair working conditions as well as encouraging small, local production.
